Tree Removal Service

Tree removal is an essential part of responsible tree management. Trees can outgrow their locations due to building changes or hand landscaping, and in urban areas, through poor placement or self-seeding. This can eventually lead to interference with properties and risks to safety or critical services such as drainage or wiring, tree removal is however often a difficult decision for many of our clients, who enjoy and appreciate the greenery in their gardens. Rest assured, Edinburgh Tree Surgeons are committed to preserving the natural beauty of our city and will always recommend good tree management practices in the first instance — however, in some cases, tree removal is the best course of action and we may suggest this service where it can benefit the health of competing trees.

Tree Felling and Removal Options

Tree removal is tackled in two ways and is dependent on the size of the tree, the layout of the site and the obstacles beneath it. We carry out tree removal by either sectional felling or clear felling. To determine which option is best, our trained arborists will visit your property for a free consultation, guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have about the service.

Sectional Tree Felling

Sectional felling involves climbing the tree and removing branches in order. The branches are then lowered and directed to the ground on ropes, carefully avoiding obstacles such as buildings or delicate landscaping. Rope access techniques primarily carry out sectional felling. Additionally, we use MEWPs (Mobile Elevated Work Platforms) to access the canopy if the trees are unsafe to climb.

Clear Felling

When clear felling, the tree trunk is cut at the base and guided using ropes and wedges to fall to the ground in a predetermined direction. Your property and garden are in safe hands with our team, who will safely remove your tree without causing any damage to your space.

Site Clean-Up and Transformation

Once your tree is felled, the tree stump will remain. You can then choose to have the stump ground down and removed or left as a feature in your garden. If you prefer the stump to be removed completely, we can prepare the ground for new planting. Our team can lay turf or plant grass seed to re-grow the lawn and bring harmony to your green space. After the service, our team will clear away any waste to be recycled. However, we can cut and prepare logs for firewood and leave behind chipped waste for mulch or compost at your request.
